Name: Randi
Birthday: March 27, 2011 (12 years old)
Breed: Elo
Personality: sweet-natured, gluttonous, lazy
We first met Randi just a few days after she was born. Several months after Mary's death my family looked for another dog, and well, there she was!
Some weeks after we knew which puppy would belong to us, so we were allowed to spend time with her. We were at least twice or thrice at her kennel every week, and eventually were allowed to take her on short walks to a nearby forest. On which she just wanted to go home LOL.
After watching most of her siblings being adopted we were finally able to take her home. She has been with us ever since!
Randi learned some basic commands from me shortly after we've adopted her, and despite her old age we're still able to train with her, somewhat. I think her first time being away from home for a long time was when she was 10 and already a senior dog.
At her age, she's more fond of sleeping or laying somewhere where she can be petted. What she loves most has always been food, that's why she still acts like a puppy when it's feeding time. I hope, she'll still be in our life for a long time, because she's such a sweet dog!

Name: Mary
Birthday: before 1997
Breed: Cairn Terrier
Personality: independent, stubborn, alert
My family got her in the early 2000s from a shelter, after she was kept as a breeding dog at a puppy mill. She was our first dog and we didn't know, that many shelter dogs are loaded with several mental issues, and the shelter didn't do much to educate us. She needed surgery for bilateral inguinal hernia, but (in my current knowledge, after owning dogs for over 20 years) she was mentally fine.
Mary was somewhat stubborn and independent, given that she was a Terrier. She loved us all, but didn't show it sometimes. Mary was mainly focussed on my mother, but liked my dad and me nontheless.
Even we, as unexperienced dog owners, could fix her minor problems concerning staying at home alone and anxiety towards dogs she didn't know.
One thing, that was very apparent was, that she always seemed to be very grateful that we'd "rescued" her. I - especially as we later found out that this specific shelter was way more fishy and suspicious than we thought - think, she could have been a dog with more mental struggles, but she wasn't.
During the time she was with us, we still had our summer home, and it was one of her favorite things to patrol on our plot and checking out the area around it.
Until her last years, we didn't know that Cairn Terriers require a specific kind of grooming. That's why her fur could never recover and why she looks very scruffy and weird in many pictures!
She was put down on January 5th, 2011 after a short battle with lung cancer.

Name: Pete, Elvis, Vincent, Harry
Birthday: June 14, 2017 (Pete, Elvis, Vincent) and September 06, 2017 (Harry)
Breed: Fancy Rats
Personality: curious, docile, brash, sensitive (Harry and Pete), dominant and gluttonous (Elvis), inconspicious (Vincent and Pete)
I got my pet rats in May 2018 after I saw a message from a local breeder who had to take in four of their rats again, because they were "children of divorced parents" and neither person wanted/was able to take care of them on their own.
It had been a long time dream for me to own rats, so I bought a huge cage filled with many things to climb and sleep on/in for my boys. They were always very docile and sweet, apart from the one time when Harry mistook my finger for a hazelnut.
They especially loved running around and exploring their enclosure outside their cage. I often played with them with a cat rod, which they chased around like mad and even bit like a rabid dog, so I could lift them in the air, because they didn't let go! They also loved climbing on me and biting my socks.
Sometimes when I worked from my computer, I took them out of their cage and put them inside the hood of my hoodie, where they happily stayed and observed their surroundings.
My boys were very sweet pets and I'm so grateful that I could meet them. Sadly, rats have a very short lifespan, and they all died within a few months between the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020. It crushed me to let them go so early and in a short time span, and that's why I won't keep rats anymore.
